Whether you want to build a custom playlist on your phone, edit a track, or keep a favorite audio file handy offline, saving a song directly to your device’s file storage is quick and easy.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to save a song to your files, depending on the device you are using.

1. Saving a Song on an iPhone or iPad (iOS)

If you are downloading an audio file (like an MP3) from Safari, an email, or a messaging app:

  • Step 1: Tap the download link or the audio file.
  • Step 2: Tap the Share button (the square icon with an arrow pointing upward).
  • Step 3: Scroll through the menu and select Save to Files.
  • Step 4: Choose where you want to keep it—such as iCloud Drive or On My iPhone—and select a folder (like Downloads or a custom music folder).
  • Step 5: Tap Save in the top-right corner.

2. Saving a Song on an Android Device

If you are downloading an audio file from a web browser or receiving it via message:

  • Step 1: Tap the download link for the song.
  • Step 2: Look for the notification pop-up confirming the download has started and completed.
  • Step 3: Open your app drawer and launch the Files app (such as Files by Google or My Files).
  • Step 4: Go to the Audio or Downloads category to find your saved song ready to play.

3. Saving a Song on a Computer (Windows & Mac)

If you are downloading music from a website or browser onto a laptop or desktop:

  • Step 1: Click the download link or right-click the audio player/file.
  • Step 2: Select Save Link As… or Download Audio.
  • Step 3: Choose your Music folder or Downloads folder from the dialog box that pops up.
  • Step 4: Click Save. You can now double-click the file to play it using your computer’s default media player.

Note: If you are trying to save songs from streaming apps like Spotify or Apple Music for offline listening, those files are encrypted and managed directly inside the app rather than your device’s general file manager.
